Welcome

BAKC is a collective of artists on the UK new music scene that want to take action against knife crime across London.

Bands Against Knife Crime (BAKC) was set up in 2009 in response to the increasing presence of a knife
crime culture that freely exists on the streets of London and other parts of the UK. As a collective, BAKC
decided that rather than sitting around and blaming the failings of society for this growing problem that is
too-regularly destroying lives, we would take the initiative and help to address the problem in the best way we knew how – using the influence of music.

For most young people music plays a positive and vital role in their day-to-day lives. As well as taking influence from favourite artists and bands, young people use music to communicate and express their emotions. BAKC want to use this influence to spread awareness of the harm and devastation that knife crime brings, provide positive role models within the music industry and encourage young people to focus on more positive aspects of their lives.

As well as heightening the awareness of knife crime BAKC was established to let young people try their hand at working in the music industry in different areas, to open up new avenues that may have previously seemed out of reach and in the process maybe unleash a hidden talent. BAKC are running competitions in music, photography, journalism, graphic design and fashion over the summer holidays with amazing prizes in each category to inspire ..... you never know we may find the next Kasabian or Don McCullin.
